League one returns today, with so much hope going into this new season for both teams as they were very excited for this first game. Argyle have looked very good so far this pre season as they beat Exeter City (their local rivals) in the Carabao Cup. However, this was a trickier test than they thought.

The match gets underway as Stockport started very strongly as Lewis Bate strikes it near the post but it’s just wide. Most of the aerial duels and possession was heading to Stockport as Argyle were shocked as County come forward again and it’s a goal by Jack Diamond; very unfortunate for the Argyle keeper Murphy Cooper as it got a deflection. Argyle were all over the place, they needed to get up to speed with the game but they just could not do anything coming into the final third. Stockport come forward and score again, another unfortunate one for Murphy Cooper as he did his best to stop it but Kyle Wootton in the right place at the right time doubles Stockport’s lead, this is not going well for Argyle at all. Argyle do come forward though as it’s sipped in to the middle and just headed over the bar by the new Argyle striker Will Evans. Still 0-2 Stockport as the game reaches half time, Argyle desperately needed half time here.

Second half gets underway, Argyle needed to turn this around. Stockport coming forward again as Will Evans gives the ball away in a dangerous area as Ryan Glover strikes one for Stockport and it’s in again. This is becoming an embarrassment for Argyle in front of their home fans, nothing is falling to them as Stockport are heading top of the table in the first game of the season. Argyle did create a few more chances as Boateng strikes one wide from about 20 yards out. The substitutes for Argyle did make a slight impact as Bradley Ibrahim and Xavier Amaechi came onto the field, all Argyle wanted from this l think was a goal. A corner comes in delivered by Curtis, Stockport header the ball away and it’s smashed into the bottom corner by Amaechi the Argyle substitute, looking very lively since he has come on Amaechi, his first goal at the Devonport end at home park, but couldn’t celebrate it.

The full time whistle goes as Stockport defeat Argyle at Home Park, not the start Argyle were hoping for, there were not many positives to take from that for the greens. Stockport were absolutely incredible on and off the ball and they are just showing why they will be in the fight for promotion again this season. Currently sitting 2nd after day one. Argyle on the other hand sit 22nd, but that could all change very quickly next time.
