Plymouth beat Doncaster 2-1 in an exciting football match held at a dry Home Park. Argyle’s starting eleven was fairly interesting as Scottish full back Jack Mackenzie makes his first league start in an Argyle shirt, and youth academy player Joe Mwaro makes his appearance on the bench for Plymouth as their injury woes continue.
Doncaster Rovers started the match strongly. Putting pressure on Plymouth very early on, searching for the opener. In the 22nd minute they found it, after an absolutely sensational and impeccable finish from midfielder Elliott Lee who is on loan from Wrexham.
The entire crowd was shocked as the ball went into the net, even some of the Doncaster players could not believe the quality of the strike.
Plymouth Argyle tried to fight back quickly. They worked hard and tried to create many chances to break Doncaster down. Just before half time, Argyle equalised with another goal from Bim Pepple, his 11th of the season, as he cancelled out Elliott Lee’s opener as the referee blew the whistle for half time. The atmosphere in the stadium was fairly even at half time, some fans were happy and some were not.
In the second half, Argyle won a penalty very early on from a handball by the Doncaster captain Owen Bailey. Ronan Curtis took the penalty to hopefully score his first goal at Home Park but the goal did not happen after a brilliant save from the experienced keeper Zander Clark to keep it level.
Argyle really improved in the second half going forwards and defensively keeping Doncaster relatively quiet. Argyle earned their second goal just before the last 15 minutes of normal time after a direct free kick goal from Herbie Kane. Kane is the latest Argyle player to come back from injury and another player that is on loan, this time from Huddersfield Town.
Doncaster in the last few minutes were pushing for a leveller, but Plymouth defended well, and right at the end a last minute effort came in from Rovers but it just creeped wide as the referee blew the whistle. Argyle were victorious, coming from behind, as the match finished 2-1 to the Pilgrims.
It was a fun and close game, and the fans enjoyed an exciting match as Plymouth moved up into the top 10 for the first time this season, as Doncaster lost two in a row in League One.
