Barnsley 0 - 3 Plymouth Argyle

Argyle needed to bounce back immediately after the Bolton defeat as they prepare for the Devon Derby on Saturday. Barnsley’s play off hopes look to be well out of reach already before this game as now they focus on surviving the drop. The match got underway on Easter Monday as both teams were looking to get the first goal early, Barnsley were the more dominant side in terms of possession. But normally when Plymouth don’t have a lot of the ball they play better. Argyle break the deadlock just 16 minutes in, after a brilliant flick from Lorent Tolaj and a great finish from Owen Oseni as he scores his second goal in three games. McGoldrick was Barnsley’s main threat going into this game, as he kept missing constant good chances. Argyle had chances with another coming in from Ronan Curtis but it’s blocked by one of the Barnsley defenders.

Argyle were just about the better side in shots but Barnsley were more in control as the referee blows the whistle for half time as it’s still 1-0 to Argyle.

Second half gets underway at Oakwell as Argyle were trying to get the second goal to kill the game off and indeed they did, after a superb finish from Lorent Tolaj his first goal since the 21st February against Cardiff. The strike duo of Oseni and Tolaj were really building in confidence as the second went in, Barnsley became really flat after that goal which unsurprisingly looked to be the winning goal. Barnsley again were dominating possession but that didn’t matter to Plymouth as they were two goals to the good. Barnsley have only had one shot on target in this game which just goes to prove how much has changed since the opening day thrashing at Home Park. Meanwhile, Oseni drifts into the box and tumbles over and the referee points to the penalty spot. Barnsley’s day looked to get even longer if Argyle score this penalty, which they just about do, Goodman goes the right way but can’t keep it out as Oseni gets his 7th goal in league one this season.

The full time whistle goes as Argyle comfortably take three points from Oakwell in a brilliant performance from the pilgrims. Owen Oseni’s brace earns Argyle seventh place in the play off race. Whilst Barnsley on the other hand currently stand 14th but do have a few games in hand on the other teams to guarantee survival very soon.
