Plymouth Argyle 2 - 1 Port Vale

Argyle needed to win this match to keep any chance of play offs alive, whilst Port Vale are already relegated they would like to try and finish the highest as possible.

The match got underway and Argyle score in the third minute thanks to Bim Pepple, 15 goals now for him this season. However minutes later Argyle’s goalkeeper comes out of his box and uses his hands so it’s an immediate red card for Conor Hazard leaving Argyle down to 10 men inside 6 minutes; what a rollercoaster of a start this is!

Port Vale now have a one man advantage and they kept coming forward with a corner shot and it's headed in at the back post by Conor Hall. Argyle wanted a hand ball before the corner but it wasn’t given and Vale are now level 1-1, 15 mins in. Port vale had chance after chance but Ashby-Hammond, who came on for Watts as Hazard was sent off has made some outstanding saves.

At half time the score is currently 1-1 at Home Park, as it stands Argyle will miss out on the play offs.

The second half gets underway at Home Park and for the last 45 mins of scheduled matches at Home Park this season. Argyle score inside minutes with a sublime finish for Pepple again, he now moves 6th into the league one top goal scorers race, what a day for him!

Port Vale unsurprisingly were dominating possession but Argyle kept having chances from counter attacks and Vale just can’t break the deadlock. With just a few mins left, Vale have a corner though, the cross comes in and it’s headed right across the 6 yard box but nobody is there to tap it home. The full time whistle blows and Argyle win narrowly with 10 men, Port Vale couldn’t use the extra man well enough so it’s another defeat for them.

One more game to go now for Argyle to hopefully get into the play offs. It will be a big ask but it’s possible, they need Luton to lose and Stevenage to draw and for themselves to win to be in the play offs. Whilst Port Vale now slip into 23rd place with 2 games left and their relegation confirmed.
