Plymouth Argyle 2 - 2 Exeter City

This was arguably the biggest game of the season for both teams. The windy conditions didn’t help today’s fixture either, which really impacted the game. Both sides barely make any changes from the previous results so we were all ready to go as the atmosphere in Home Park was very loud and intense.

The game got underway and both teams were pushing hard for the first goal. Argyle put plenty of crosses into the box looking to see if they can score from another set piece, Exeter managed to get lots of action down the right wing from Niskanen, who currently has played the most minutes out of anybody in league one this season; which is very impressive. Argyle had constant chances as Oseni and Tolaj had a few shots but Exeter’s keeper Bycroft denies them again. It’s half time with the scoreline standing at 0-0 in the Devon Derby.

The second half got underway, both teams started thick and fast. The first goal comes from Exeter City and its Reece Cole again, who has now scored in both derby’s this season, what a moment for the Grecians and Exeter, now Plymouth have work to do.

Argyle couldn’t really get going until the 75th minute, as the only chance they really had was Tolaj blasting one over the bar. But don’t count the Pilgrims out from corners, the cross comes in from Curtis, headed back across the face of goal and in. Argyle have equalised and it’s their main man Lorent Tolaj. It’s now 1-1 as we approach the last 10 minutes of normal time. The pyros came out and the atmosphere has now completely changed in this stadium. 2 minutes later Argyle centre half Mathias Ross lines up a shot but it’s a brilliant save by Bycroft to keep it level. However, Exeter have a long throw, it comes in, constant deflections and it’s in, Jayden Wareham strikes again for Exeter. Conor Hazard couldn’t keep it out and Exeter have retaken the lead, they might do the double over their nearest rivals. The Grecians lead at Home Park now 2-1 in the 87th Minute.

Argyle yet have another set piece, this time a free kick is swung in by Amaechi and it eventually goes in by Malachi Boateng! They are level yet again, it’s 2-2 with 8 minutes of stoppage time to play.

Unfortunately, time run out for both sides, as Exeter’s relegation fears stretch even further. They couldn’t hold on to the lead twice as it was their perfect opportunity to.

Argyle will be disappointed not to beat them once this season as Exeter take 4 points from them this season. Argyle’s play off hopes now will slowly decay away if they don’t beat Wimbledon next Saturday at Plough Lane. The Grecians will welcome Stockport at St James Park, which will be very tough as they currently are bidding for promotion as well as Plymouth.
